Faceglarss

FaceglARss is AR-based software that provides information that users uploaded for public events. It bridges the online social experience with offline social scenarios by providing assisted information, helps users ice-breaking and encourages face-to-face socializing.
It is a three days project and a collaboration outcome with three software engineerings.  We critically reflected on the problems that modern technology created -- people stay close physically but far away from each other cognitively. And we thought about improving it by bridging the virtual social experience into real life by applying AR technology.

Design Context

The  Challenges

The project is an extension of my master project, it reflected on the design problem of the negative impact of current technology.

Critical thinking of daily human interaction brings us to the design idea of enhancing face-to-face communication through AR technology, which could allow us to engage with reality and virtuality parallelly.

We spend 3 days in design and build up the artefact.

There were 4 members in this group, 3 engineering and 1 designer, and our group tested the prototype with 5 participates in the hackathon and finally gain the best prize of this hackathon.

  • Complete a project in 3 days

  • Collaborate with 3 developers

Why we support f2f socializing?

social awkwardness

We did a small survey on socializing issue of current technology and found all participants experienced the social barriers and awared the social distance created by technology.

Hard to remember the names in the Hackathon

In an international environment (e.g. our hackathon, conference and events), people are facing the problem of remembering the name and how to pronounce the name

 Passive social interaction

There are rising discussions of how current technology twisted the natural interaction between people to people, and mostly from a negative perspective

Design Outcomes

A positive feedback from the tested participates

All partcipates expressed the willingness of using it in a conference or public events.

The best prise of the Hackathon

There are 6 groups and our design has won the best design in this small hackathon
